It happened eastbound near Exit 63 in Holtsville on Sunday, Oct. 20 just before 2 a.m., Suffolk County Police said.

Thomas Zuckerman, 19, of Lake Ronkonkoma, was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima at excessive speed eastbound on the Long Island Expressway with a 15-year-old girl in the vehicle at approximately 1:55 a.m.

A highway patrol officer who initiated the traffic stop for speeding arrested Zuckerman at the scene, police said. The girl was released to a family member. There were no injuries.

Sixth Squad detectives charged Zuckerman with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years old or younger (Leandra’s Law), and endangering the welfare of a child.

Zuckerman was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
